Barbara Stanwyck’s Oscar Homages
Today is Barbara Stanwyck Day on Turner Classic Movies.
Above are a couple of Stanwyck homages at the Academy Awards. In the first one, William Holden pays tribute to Stanwyck, his leading lady in his first major film role, Golden Boy (1939). Stanwyck stood by him when Columbia was just about ready to sack the newcomer.
In the second clip, Stanwyck is honored with an Oscar for the bulk of her career. During her acceptance speech, she pays tribute to Holden, who had died in November of the previous year. (Though the clip is dated 1981, the awards ceremony was actually held in 1982.)

That Barbara Stanwyck-William Holden moment is one of the most moving in Oscar history. I still get teary-eyed watching it.
Very moving indeed.
