Gregory Peck and Brock Peters in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) directed by Robert Mulligan

Actor Brock Peters, best known as the black man falsely accused of rape in the 1962 drama To Kill a Mockingbird, died of pancreatic cancer today at his home.

Peters’ other movie roles include those in the musicals Carmen Jones (1954) and Porgy and Bess (1959), and in two of the Star Trek feature films. He also appeared in a number of TV shows.

Brock Peters was 78.
