BY MYSELF AND THEN SOME by Lauren Bacall
by Andre Soares
By Myself and Then Some is a reprinting of — not a sequel to — Lauren Bacall’s 1978 autobiographical tome By Myself, plus about 75 new pages.
By Myself discusses her rise to Hollywood stardom, partly because of her work in several Warner Bros. films (e.g., To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep), but mainly because of her off-screen association with superstar Humphrey Bogart.
Bacall also speaks candidly about her marriage to actor Jason Robards, and about her career as a Broadway musical star.
The new section includes information about her many friends who have passed away, e.g., Roddy McDowall and Gregory Peck, and how the actress keeps on both living and working.
Bacall also talks about the disappointment she felt after losing the 1996 best supporting actress Oscar to Juliette Binoche.
