Danielle Darrieux Singing in 8 WOMEN

Danielle Darrieux, whose film career spans nearly eight decades, sings "Il n’y a pas d’amour heureux" in François Ozon’s delightfully subversive period musical sex comedy melodrama murder mystery 8 Women. The other seven singing & dancing potential murderesses are Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Fanny Ardant, Emmanuelle Béart, Firmine Richard, Virginie Ledoyen, and Ludivine Sagnier (seen with Darrieux in the clip).

It’s more than about time for the US-based Academy to hand the 91-year-old Danielle Darrieux an Honorary Oscar. From 1931 on, she’s worked with many of the world’s top directors, among them Billy Wilder, Anatole Litvak, Henri Decoin, Claude Autant-Lara, Max Ophüls, Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Sacha Guitry, Julien Duvivier, Jacques Demy, and André Téchiné.

Among Darrieux’s more than 130 features and telefilms are Mauvaise graine, Mayerling, Club de femmes, Battement de coeur, Occupe-toi d’Amélie, La Ronde, Le Plaisir, Rich, Young and Pretty, 5 Fingers, Madame De…, Adorables créatures, Le Rouge et le noir, Pot-Bouille, Marie-Octobre, The Greengage Summer, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, Le Lieu du crime, Une chambre en ville, Nouvelle chance, and Persepolis (in which she does the grandmother’s voice).
