Deborah Kerr Article

"About that time [1960] I also made The Naked Edge with [Gary Cooper] at Elstree, as I had always wanted to work with him. I had no idea he was terminally ill with cancer although he often seemed tired, felt the cold badly and was sometimes in pain."
That’s six-time Academy Award nominee Deborah Kerr, as quoted in Paul Welsh’s article "Always the Oscars bridesmaid, never the bride" in the Borehamwood and Elstree Times.
For the record, Kerr Oscar nominations were for Edward, My Son (1949), From Here to Eternity (1953), The King and I (1956), Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison (1957), Separate Tables (1958), and The Sundowners (1960). She was finally granted a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 1994 ceremony.
The New York Film Critics Circle was more generous — and more right — than the Academy. Kerr won no less than three Best Actress Awards, for Black Narcissus and I See a Dark Stranger / The Adventuress (1947), Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison (1957), and The Sundowners (1960).
Kerr will turn 85 next Sept. 30. The Scottish-born actress currently lives in Switzerland.
