Doris Day Collection DVD Set

Doris Day Collection on DVDThe much underrated Doris Day hasn’t won an Honorary Academy Award yet, but at least she’s being honored with her own DVD box set, the Doris Day Collection — even if most of the Collection’s films have already been released as "singles."

The 8-disc set includes the following Doris Day vehicles:

Billy Rose’s Jumbo (1962), a sentimental circus story directed by Charles Walters, and co-starring Stephen Boyd, Jimmy Durante, and Martha Raye

Calamity Jane (1953), possibly Day’s best film. Directed by David Butler, co-starring Howard Keel, and with Day singing "Secret Love"

The Glass Bottom Boat (1966), a very 1960s and very silly comedy directed by Frank Tashlin, with Rod Taylor, plus assorted Commie spies and counterspies

Love Me or Leave Me (1955), as singer Ruth Etting, getting slapped around by James Cagney and delivering a perfectly acceptable dramatic performance under the guidance of Charles Vidor

Lullaby of Broadway (1951), which has Day romancing Gene Nelson when not singing ditties

The Pajama Game (1957), a musical about labor relations (!), co-directed by George Abbott and Stanley Donen, with John Raitt

Please Don’t Eat the Daisies (1960), a not very funny comedy directed by Charles Walters, with David Niven and Janis Paige

Young Man with a Horn (1950), a passable black-and-white melodrama co-starring Kirk Douglas and Lauren Bacall, and directed by veteran Michael Curtiz

Scheduled Region 1 DVD (Canada / U.S. / U.S. territories) release date: April 26, 2005

List price: US$88.92.

i used to watch these films with my mum. they are nostalgic and she represented herself well at the time. i would reccomend a watch and definatly worth adding to any collection. a reminder of a simpler time.
