European Film Awards 2005 Nominees

European Film Academy 2005 AwardsThe European Film Academy has announced the nominations for the 2005 European Film Awards. Best Picture nominees include Caché / Hidden, Sophie Scholl - The Final Days, My Summer of Love, and Cannes Film Festival winner L’Enfant / The Child. Noticeably absent from the best director list are the brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (L’Enfant) and Berlin Film Festival winner Marc Rothemund (Sophie Scholl), though Cristi Puiu (Moartea domnului Lazarescu / The Death of Mr. Lazarescu) and Wim Wenders (Don’t Come Knocking) made the cut. Best actress nominees include Juliette Binoche for Caché, Berlin Film Festival winner Julia Jentsch for Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage, and Audrey Tautou for Un long dimanche de fiançailles / A Very Long Engagement, while among the six performers in the running for the Best Actor Award are Daniel Auteuil for Caché, Jérémie Renier for L’Enfant, and Ulrich Matthes for Der Neunte Tag / The Ninth Day. Hany Abu-Assad and Bero Beyer (for Paradise Now), Mark O’Halloran (for Adam & Paul), and double nominee Michael Haneke (Caché, for which he also received a Best Director nomination) are four of the screenwriters vying for the Best Screenplay Award.

The European Film Award winners will be announced on Saturday, December 3, in Berlin.
