I happened to find in youtube the comparison between the same 12 angry men scene taken from 1954 , 1957 and 1997 different performances. I had only seen so far the movie of 1957, which I consider a masterpiece. However I have been deeply touched by the astonishing performance of Franchot Tone in the 1954 TV version. Now I believe that he is (by far) the best performer of them all and I dare to say that from now on he will always be "the best of the 36 characters". And I say it with all due respect to Cobb, Scott, Cummings, Fonda and Lemmon and so many other greats.........

Greetings from Madrid (Spain)<br

Second: Franchot and Barbara Peyton lived (short time) next door to us on Courtney Dr. I am not really sure that he ever actually moved in.
I remember the infamous afternoon when Tom Neal decked Franchot on the front door steps.

First: Diana was there a Marcie Atlman in your immediate family?<br

If you go to my website, dianaaltman.com you'll see a still from that screen test. Best of luck to you! I've always had a crush on Franchot Tone, too! Best regards, Diana Altman, author, Hollywood East:Louis B.Mayer and the Origins of the Studio System, and In Theda Bara's Tent, a novel soon to be released.

Lisa, how nice of you to mention my father, the late Al Altman who directed Franchot Tone's screen test. I THINK HE WAS A WONDERFUL ACTOR > VERY UNDER-RATED AND VERY UNDER-USED BY THE HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS. BECAUSE HE WAS SO ELEGANT AND CHARMING HE WAS VERY QUICKLY TYPED-CAST IN THE EARLY MOVIES AND AS A RESULT WAS IN ALOT OF CRAP & DRIPPLE , HE WAS FULLY CAPABLE OF MUCH BETTER ROLES. WHEN HE DID GET A MEATY ROLE HE CERTAINLY SHOWED WHAT HE WAS MADE OF WITH THE UTMOST DIGNITY AND CLASS. WHAT I WOULD GIVE TO SEE A TRUE STAR OF HIS MAGNITUDE AROUND TODAY. HE HAD AN AMAZING SMILE AND PANACHE THAT YOU DON'T SEE ANYMORE. I LOOK FORWARD TO THIS UP AND COMING BOOK. I HOPE IT IS FILLED WITH WONDERFUL PICTURES AND STORIES. I MARRIED A MAN THAT LOOKED VERY MUCH LIKE FRANCHOT TONE AND WE HAD A WONDERFUL 35 YEAR MARRIAGE UNTIL HE PASSED LAST APRIL. I MISS MY HUSBAND EVRYDAY OF MY LIFE AND I MISS FRANCHOT TOME TOO ~

I HAVE LOVED FRANCHOT TONE MY WHOLE ADULT LIFE. Brings back old memories of my college days when we lived on Courtney Circle next door to Barbara and both Tom Neal and Franchot. Neals spent many more days there than Tone.
I used to laught at Neal in his satin blue and yellow boxer outfit polishing Tone's car out front on the street. Also the night Neal decked a mild mannered Tone on the front steps.
Those were the old Hollywood days.

There are many instances of actors from that period with Mr Tone's quality not receiving recognition due.

Most fascinating to read about your forthcoming book. I do hope when published it will be available in the UK.<br
