Hollywood Stars to Snub BAFTA Ceremony

Adam Sherwin in The [London] Times:
"Hollywood stars have snubbed next weekend’s Bafta film awards despite hopes that the event would benefit from the writers’ strike that threatens to curtail the Oscars, the industry’s biggest night.
"Best Actor Oscar nominees George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Tommy Lee Jones have all indicated their unavailability, as have Best Actress candidates Julie Christie, Laura Linney and Ellen Page."

Daniel Day-Lewis, the expected best actor winner, is supposed to show up. Other nominees scheduled to attend the 2008 Bafta awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House on February 10, are Joel Coen, Anton Corbijn, Keira Knightley, and James McAvoy.
Addendum: Among the alleged no-shows listed above, Julie Christie, for one, did show up at the Bafta ceremony.
