Jayne Mansfield, Mickey Rooney at the 1960 Golden Globes

Some found it hilarious watching Ed Harris‘ use a toothpick while accepting his Golden Globe and Christine Lahti present an award with toilet paper attached to her shoe. Not me.

In my view, hilarious is the above clip, featuring a totally unaffected — and stunning — Jayne Mansfield and a totally flustered (perhaps after a few drinks?) Mickey Rooney, looking like he’s just about ready to fall into her cleavage. That is, if her dress doesn’t fall off first.

By the way, Rooney was there to accept a special award given to Mexican movie icon Cantinflas, whose Pepe, which turned out to be a box-office disappointment, was released by Columbia in 1960.

According to a friend who was around back then, in the old days the Golden Globes were the movie party of the year because the ceremony wasn’t televised. People could get drunk, tell risqué jokes, and do whatever else they pleased knowing that they wouldn’t be making fools of themselves in front of millions of TV watchers. Those days, of course, are over.

What the hell I am saying? Scratch that.

They should give out a Golden Globe for best bosom.
Or at least for best platinum hair.

They should have something like this – and more -at the Oscars. I can guarantee you that millions would tune in.
