Star Line-Up for the Oscars

Lining up the talent: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced many of the presenters at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. Among them, are Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman, Will Smith, Meryl Streep, Clint Eastwood, Jennifer Aniston, Naomi Watts, Morgan Freeman, and Hilary Swank.

Thus far, the only real old-timer - anyone who began making movies before 1975 (or about a generation ago) - is Eastwood. (Morgan Freeman had bit parts in a handful of pre-1975 films, but he didn’t really have a film career at that time.)
The Academy will probably need all the talent it can assemble, if the relatively low television ratings for the British Academy of Film Awards and the Golden Globes (up from last year - probably due to a scheduling change - but way down from 2004 and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) are any indication of this year’s Oscar viewership.
This year’s Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PST. A one-hour red carpet arrivals show will precede the telecast at 4 p.m.
