TSOTSI Submitted for the Oscars

South Africa has submitted Gavin Hood’s Tsotsi to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences‘ 2005 Foreign Language Film category.
Adapted from Athol Fugard’s play, Tsotsi is the story of a township hoodlum who ends up taking care of an infant whose mother he shot during a carjacking.
The film has already won two awards — the Standard Life Audience Award for most popular film and the Michael Powell Award for Best Film at the 58th Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Tsotsi will next be screened at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival in September.
