RANG DE BASANTI and India’s Military
by Andre Soares
Via the Associated Press / International Herald Tribune:
The producers of Rang De Basanti ("Color Me Saffron"), a huge box-office hit in India and that country’s entry for the upcoming Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award, have asked "top defense officials" to take part in a short documentary to promote the potential Oscar contender.
Rang De Basanti stars Aamir Khan as one of a group of apolitical young men who, after working with a British filmmaker on a project about India’s independence, come to the realization that they are True Patriots.
The producers’ request came as a surprise to some because the protagonists in Rang De Basanti end up killing a corrupt defense minister — a deed that didn’t go over all that well with the leaders of India’s armed forces.
