Get ready for a lot of press on why Dreamgirls did not get a Best Picture nod. Never mind that it received the most nomimations of any films this year. It was an emotional, entertaining film that was rewarded in the categories where it performed the strongest — namely the supporting acting roles and the music. The direction was iffy and the screenplay sucked. Compared to its competition, the film lacked the overall quality needed for Best Picture status.

    Hey, Allenette,

    Thanks for writing.

I still haven’t seen “Dreamgirls” — and I believe it won’t be my cup of chocolate milk with vodka — but considering all the hype I expected it to receive a best picture nod.

Sometimes hype is not enough. Or perhaps it was a matter of not having the appropriately targeted hype. Anyhow, whether it’s a good film or not I’m sure that “Dreamgirls” was #6 in that best picture list.
