I HEART HUCKABEES On-Set Blowup Parody
by Andre Soares

A dedicated Method actor, Paul Rudd (right) watches the i heart huckabees outtakes over and over again so he can say “fuck” with as much heartfelt power as Lily Tomlin.
Whether you enjoyed or were appalled by the ugliness of the i heart huckabees on-set battle of dimwits, you’ll surely enjoy — at least I did — the parody enacted by Paul Rudd (in the Lily Tomlin role) and Michael Showalter (as the deranged show host who keeps telling his recalcitrant star to “act like an adult” while wreaking havoc on the set).
Rudd, in particular is very funny — “We need to get insurance against the director!” Having Showalter call Rudd a “fucking cunt bitch,” however, doesn’t quite work for obvious reasons — though I assume that was one of those rare instances where the adapters wanted to remain faithful to the original text.

About a decade ago I saw Paul Rudd in The Object of My Affection, a bland romantic comedy made thoroughly watchable by Rudd and fellow co-star Jennifer Aniston. At the time I thought he was going to become a big film star. That hasn’t happened, but perhaps there’s still time — though it’d be cool if Rudd arrived at the top without resorting to appearances in atrocities such as the wildly popular The 40 Year Old Virgin. (But then again, he apparently enjoys that sort of stuff. See Paul Rudd interview at A.V. Club.)
