AUSTRALIA Trailer
Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Australian-American co-production Australia is one more year-end release that is being touted as both a potential 2009 Oscar contender and the film that will give a much-needed boost to Nicole Kidman’s stardom.
Set in northern Australia right before World War II, Australia chronicles the romantic and social struggles of an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) who inherits an enormous ranch far away from civilization. Enter cattle barons plotting to take her land, which then leads her to join forces with a rough cattle driver (Hugh Jackman) — could it be love? — to help her drive hundreds and hundreds of heads of cattle across hundreds and hundreds of perilous miles. If that weren’t enough, the peripatetic Japanese decide to bomb Darwin.
Screenplay by Luhrmann and Stuart Beattie. Also in the Australia cast: David Wenham, Bryan Brown, Bruce Spence, and Jack Thompson.
Australia opens in the US on November 26, 2008.
