2006 Milan International Film Festival and Busto Arsizio Film Festival Awards

Il Cavallo di Leonardo da Vinci, Milan International Film Festival Award

I’ve added the list of winners at the 2006 Milan International Film Festival, which was held between March 28 and April 10.

Paul McGuigan’s thriller Lucky Number Slevin, which was greeted by mixed reviews in the U.S., won both the jury and the audience awards for Best Film, while Julian Jarrold was Best Director for Kinky Boots.

The Best Actors (it was a tie) were Josh Hartnett for Lucky Number Slevin and Peter Falk for The Thing About My Folks. Alexandra Maria Lara took home the Best Actress award for her performance in Der Fischer und seine Frau / The Fisherman and His Wife. Paul Reiser won the Best Screenplay award for The Thing About My Folks.

Note: Perhaps I’m missing something, but this Associated Press / Washington Post article about Bollywood star Sonali Kulkarni’s Best Actress win at the Milan Film Festival is apparently referring to her win at another festival. Kulkarni - and veteran Omar Sharif - won Best Supporting Actor and Actress honors at the Busto Arsizio Film Festival, which was held in that small town in the Varese province between March 25 and April 1.

Note Part II: This year’s Busto Arsizio festival had awards for Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and a joint award for Best Supporting Actor and Actress. Kulkarni and Sharif won the joint award.
