American Cinema Editors (ACE) Awards - 2006 Nominations
by Andre Soares
Among the nominees for the 2006 American Cinema Editors (ACE) Awards — the Eddies – are, in the feature drama category, Lucia Zuccheti for The Queen and veteran Thelma Schoonmaker for The Departed (despite some clumsily edited bits in that film, though those may have been director Martin Scorsese’s fault), and, in the comedy/musical category, Dana Glauberman for Thank You for Smoking and Virginia Katz for Dreamgirls.
Quentin Tarantino, the most overrated filmmaker of the last couple of hundred years, will received the ACE Filmmaker of the Year Award — even though he hasn’t done any major feature-film work in the last couple of years.
Career Achievement awards will be handed out to veterans Frank J. Urioste, a three-time Oscar nominee (for Robocop, Die Hard, and Basic Instinct), and John Soh, the editor of numerous documentaries and TV miniseries, including The Hellstrom Chronicles (1971) and Hiroshima.
The winners of the 2006 ACE’s Eddie Awards will be announced on Feb. 18
