Austin Film Critics Association Awards - 2006 Winners
January 3rd, 2007 by Andre Soares

The Austin Film Critics Association has announced its 2006 set of awards.
There were several surprises, including two wins for Alfonso Cuarón — as Best Director and as the author of the Best Original Screenplay for the futuristic sociopolitical drama Children of Men.
Also, Leonardo DiCaprio was voted Best Actor for his mole in The Departed, but the biggest surprise was the fact that Helen Mirren failed to be chosen the Best Actress of 2006. That I know of, the Austin critics are the only ones in the U.S. not to have picked Mirren. Instead, they opted for Ellen Page, who has been all but ignored by other critics’ groups, for her role as a 14-year-old preying on pedophiles in Hard Candy.
