2006 Swiss Film Awards - Solothurn Film Festival

2006 Swiss Film Awards: January 18, 2006

Mein Name ist Eugen / My Name is Eugen (2005) directed by Michael Steiner, starring Manuel Häberli

Michael Steiner’s Swiss-German comedy Mein Name ist Eugen / My Name is Eugen, adapted from Klaus Schädelin’s 1960s children’s novel, has won the Swiss Film Award for best narrative film at Switzerland’s Solothurn Film Festival.

Fernand Melgar’s Exit, the Right to Die, which portrays individuals who support euthanasia, won the best documentary award, Carlos Leal was chosen best performer in a leading role for his participation in Samir’s Snow White (a tale involving drugs and rap music that has precious little to do with the fairy tale), and veteran Marthe Keller won the award for best performance in a supporting role for Fragile.

The best short film prize was given to Peter Volkhart’s Terra Incognita, and Filmkollectiv Zürich won the Special Jury Prize for producing Beatrice Michel Leuthold and Hans Stürm’s documentary Klingenhof, about the intersecting lives in a Zurich neighborhood. The best film and best documentary prizes are both worth SFr60,000 (US$46,745).
