4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS Wins European Film Award

Cristian Mungiu’s abortion drama 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days has won the European Film Award for best European film.
Helen Mirren won the best actress award from the European Film Academy this evening in Berlin. Mirren was honored for her performance as a gentler, kinder Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears‘ royal drama The Queen.
The best actor winner was Sasson Gabai for the Israeli comedy-drama The Band’s Visit.
Fatih Akin received the best screenwriting prize for The Edge of Heaven.
Giuseppe Tornatore’s drama The Unknown was given the Audience Award for best film.
In attendance at the Berlin ceremony are veterans Liv Ullmann, Jeanne Moreau, and Wim Wenders, among others. Actors Emmanuelle Béart and Jan Josef Liefers are hosting the event.
