ICE BEARS OF THE BEAUFORT, CHILDREN OF WAR Screenings

Ice Bears of the Beaufort by Arthur C. Smith III

The 2009 Artivist Film Festival will present the Los Angeles premiere of Arthur C. Smith III's Ice Bears of the Beaufort (above) and Bryan Single's Children of War on Friday, Dec. 2, at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

Ice Bears of the Beaufort will screen at at 7:30 pm; Children of War will follow at 9 pm. Arthur C. Smith III and his wife, writer Jennifer Smith, and Bryan Single will take part in Q&A sessions after their respective screenings.

Ice Bears of the Beaufort shows the lives and activities of polar bears along the Beaufort Sea, threatened by climate change, and oil and gas drilling. At least some human beings care about their fate. Filmmaker Smith explains, “We are the natural world. Denial of that fact is at the root of our problems.” Ice Bears of the Beaufort features a musical score by Patrick O’Hearn.

Children of War offers a portrait of former child soldiers of the Lord’s Resistance Army of Uganda, now struggling to be rehabilitated.

The Artivist Film Festival runs Dec. 1-5.
