Oscar 2008: Visual Effects Shortlist

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that seven films have been shortlisted for the 2007 Visual Effects Oscar. They are:

The Bourne Ultimatum
Evan Almighty
The Golden Compass
I Am Legend
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
300
Transformers (top photo)

On January 16, members of the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch will watch 15-minute excerpts from each of the seven films. Following the screenings, they will vote to nominate three of those films.

The 80th Academy Award nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. In the US, the Oscarcast will be televised live by ABC beginning at 5 p.m. PT. The show will also be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.
