Washington, D.C., Area Film Critics Association 2005 Winners

 

Munich (2005) directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Eric Bana, Daniel Craig, Geoffrey RushThe Washington (D.C.) Area Film Critics Association has picked Steven Spielberg’s tale of terror and revenge, Walk the Line, as the top film of 2005, and Spielberg as Best Director. Elsewhere, Washington critics have followed the steps of several other U.S. critics’ groups, citing Philip Seymour Hoffman as Best Actor for his performance in Capote, Reese Witherspoon as Best Actress for playing June Carter in Walk the Line, Amy Adams as Best Supporting Actress for Junebug, and Paul Giamatti as Best Supporting Actor for Cinderella Man. Best Foreign Film was the action-comedy flick Kung Fu / Kung Fu Hustle, directed by Stephen Chow, while Best Documentary was Alex Gibney’s depiction of corporate corruption, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room.

The most surprising aspect of this group’s list was the total exclusion of critics’ fave Brokeback Mountain.
