Who Cares About Oscar?
by Andre Soares
In the Gannett News Service, Scott Bowles asks nine questions about the Oscars, including "Will anybody care?" Small (budget-wise) movies, including Brokeback Mountain, Match Point, Good Night, and Good Luck., and Capote, will probably dominate this year’s Oscar nominations, since the big Hollywood studios couldn’t care less about making the types of films that win critical acclaim or Academy Awards. Their focus is on 12-year-old videogame players, those highly influential power brokers who actually dictate what movies get made for US$100 million.
Note: I noticed one mistake in the Bowles article. Last year’s female "darling" was Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby), not Charlize Theron.
