Eles Nao Usam Black-Tie aka They Don't Wear Black-Tie (1981) directed by Leon Hirszman, starring Gianfrancesco Guarnieri, Fernanda Montenegro, Carlos Alberto Ricceli, Bete Mendes
A superb cast that includes Academy Award nominee Fernanda Montenegro (Central do Brasil / Central Station) brings to life the conflicted characters of Eles Não Usam Black-Tie / They Don't Wear Black-Tie, director Leon Hirszman and star Gianfrancesco Guarnieri's adaptation of Guarnieri's own play about a working-class family torn apart by labor struggles. During a strike, the father, a union leader, sides with the laborers. The son, however, opts to cross picket lines because he needs the money to support his own growing family. This harrowing drama won the FIPRESCI prize at the 1981 Venice Film Festival.
