Moviegoers beamed up J. J. AbramsStar Trek reboot to the No. 1 spot at the North American box office, with a solid $72.5 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and Simon Pegg, Star Trek lifted its early domestic total to $76.5 million (counting revenues from Thursday’s evening screenings).

Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Lynn Collins in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Last week’s box-office winner X-Men Origins: Wolverine dropped to second place, earning $27 million. Directed by Gavin Hood and starring Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, and Liev Schreiber, the film brought its total haul to $129.6 million after two weeks in theaters.

Jennifer Garner, Matthew McConaughey, Daniel Sunjata in Ghosts of Girfriends Past

At No. 3, Mark Waters‘ comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past collected another $10.4 million, reaching a cumulative gross of $30.2 million.

Beyoncé Knowles‘ thriller Obsessed followed in fourth place with a weekend gross of $6.6 million and a cume of $56.2 million.

Zac Efron in 17 Again

Meanwhile, Zac Efron’s comedy 17 Again took home $4.4 million for a domestic total of $54.1 million after a decent four-week release.

Next Day Air

Debuting in sixth place with $4 million was Benny Boom’s action comedy Next Day Air, which stars Donald Faison, Mike Eppes and Mos Def. The film examines what happens in the lives of 10 people after a shipment of cocaine ends up in the wrong hands.

Joe Wright’s The Soloist pulled $3.6 million at No. 7, reaching a total gross of $23.5 million. DreamWorks Animation’s Monsters vs. Aliens followed closely at No. 8 with $3.3 million, lifting its cumulative gross to $186.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10 this weekend were Disneynature’s Earth at No. 9, collecting $2.4 million for a total haul of $26 million, and Hannah Montana: The Movie, starring Miley Cyrus, which also brought in $2.4 million in tenth place, reaching a domestic total of $74 million.
