THE FINAL DESTINATION Remains #1 at Box Office

Bobby Campo in The Final Destination

The Final Destination held on to the No. 1 spot at the North American box office for a second consecutive weekend with $12.4 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

New Line Cinema’s David R. Ellis-directed horror sequel scored an average of $3,984 per theater at 3,121 locations, bringing its domestic total to $47.5 million after a little more than one week in release.

Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper in All About Steve

At No. 2, new entry All About Steve brought in a disappointing $11.2 million from ticket sales at 2,251 locations. Starring Sandra Bullock, the comedy follows a hyperactive crossword-puzzle constructor who stops at nothing to be close to the love of her life (Bradley Cooper).

Gerard Butler in Gamer

The two remaining new entries failed to perform as well, as Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s Gamer debuted at No. 4 with a three-day gross of $9 million. Playing at 2,502 locations and starring Gerard Butler, the action flick is set in a world where humans control other humans in a deadly online multiplayer shooter game.

Jason Bateman in Extract

Mike Judge’s Extract, the third wide release this weekend, only made it to No. 10 with $4.1 million from sales at 1,611 locations. In the comedy, Jason Bateman plays an extract-plant owner dealing with troubles at home and at work.

Meanwhile, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds picked up another $10.8 million, lifting its total haul to $91 million after three weeks in release. At No. 5, District 9 took home $7 million, bringing its cume to a stunning $101.2 million.

Amy Adams in Julie and Julia

Rob Zombie’s Halloween II slipped to sixth place this weekend, pulling $5.6 million for a total gross of $25.6 million. Following closely at No. 7 was Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams (above), which reached a cumulative gross of $78.8 million after weekend earnings of $5.2 million.

Down three spots to No. 8 was Stephen SommersG.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which finished this weekend with $5.1 million. The film’s domestic total currently stands at $139.4 million.

Warner’s drama The Time Traveler’s Wife collected $4.2 million, enough for ninth place. Starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana, the film reached a cume of $54.5 million after a four-week run.
