There are few web series that I&#8217;ve enjoyed watching; of those, Matt Koval&#8217;s &#34;The Fuplers&#34; is probably my favorite. The series chronicles the table-time interactions of your typical Mondo Bizarro family, with Koval playing Mom, Dad, Teen Son, and lithping, pig-tailed Little Daughter. 
According to Koval&#8217;s  profile on his website, in one year his 20-video YouTube channel has grown   from 50 to 50,000 subscribers, while &#34;The Fuplers&#34; has been averaging 300,000 views per episode. Additionally, earlier this year Koval  wrote and directed a web series for Fox Digital Studios.

The son of a concert pianist and trumpeter, Bulgarian-born, Austrian-trained composer Mario Grigorov has been creating film music for two decades, having become particularly busy in the last ten years or so. Among his movie credits are Leonardo Ricagni&#8217;s  29 Palms (1999) and El chevrolé (2002), Alison Thompson&#8217;s documentary The Third Wave: A Volunteer Story (2007), additional music for Alex Gibney&#8217;s Oscar-winning Iraq War documentary Taxi to the Dark Side, and a number of short films.

In Matt Bissonnette&#8217;s psychological comedy-drama Passenger Side, recently screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival, two brothers go on a road trip throughout the Los Angeles area and the desert nearby. 
Michael Brown (Adam Scott) begins his birthday with a telephone call from his estranged brother, Tobey (Joel Bissonnette), who has a long history of drug addiction. Tobey needs a ride to several places throughout town, but is initially reluctant to explain exactly where he wants to go and why. Just as reluctantly, Michael becomes Tobey&#8217;s chauffeur for the day.

The winner of 7 French Academy Awards, including best film, best original screenplay, and best actress, Martin Provost&#8217;s Séraphine stars Yolande Moreau as painter Séraphine Louis, aka Séraphine de Senlis, a plain, poor, uncultured, devoutly Catholic, and emotionally unbalanced housekeeper who became known as a major artistic talent in the early 20th century.

Based on actual events, Eran Riklis&#8216; Lemon Tree (no connection to Sandy Tolan&#8217;s novel The Lemon Tree), which opens today in the Los Angeles area, chronicles a Palestinian widow&#8217;s fight to prevent the Israeli army from razing  her lemon grove. The problem is that all those lemon trees are  located right next door to the brand new house &#8212; actually, &#34;fortress&#34; would be a better description &#8212; of the Israeli minister of defense. Security agents have deemed the grove a potential hide-out for terrorists, who could then fire rockets right onto the minister&#8217;s dining table.

 The films she made with Bette Davis &#8212; The Old Maid (1939) and Old Acquaintance (1943) &#8212; first attracted me to Miriam Hopkins. Also, the stories of their purported feud and Davis’ virulent comments that she spouted forth during her last days piqued my interest. Davis has always been a favorite of mine, so anyone who could incur this diva’s wrath must have something going on. On July 18, the day of the world premiere of Repo! The Genetic Opera, I was fortunate enough to be able to interview the film&#8217;s director, Darren Lynn Bousman, best known for his Saw films, and star, Alexa Vega, of Spy Kids fame, at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal. They had been doing interviews all morning and I was around for some of that time watching them be passed around from media to media, each time giving the most excited and passionate responses. Even though they had been probably answering the same questions hundreds of times, they never lacked enthusiasm or gave a hint of boredom.

On Friday, July 18, I got to sit with horror-film acting legend Bill Moseley (photo, on the left) &#8212; Moseley was Chop Top from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and Otis Driftwood from House of a 1000 Corpses and The Devil&#8217;s Rejects) &#8212; and writer/actor Terrance Zdunich (photo, on the right) to talk with them about the their latest effort, Repo! The life of Darby Crash and the Germs was based around a five-year plan. Director Rodger Grossman would spend triple that amount of time making a film version of the events surrounding those five years. What We Do Is Secret is a biopic of Crash (played by Shane West) &#8212; a young individual with powerful focus and drive who began the hardcore punk scene in LA during the &#8217;70s. Crash would speak to his friends about his five-year plan, which included getting band members, instruments, gigs, and then advertise all before they could learn how to play. 
What We Do Is Secret had its Montreal premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival on July 6 and was hosted by director Grossman. [...]]]></description>

Several weeks ago, I chatted with actor-director-screenwriter Guillaume Canet, 35, at a West Hollywood hotel where Canet was promoting his romantic thriller Ne le dis à personne / Tell No One, which opens in Los Angeles and New York City tomorrow.
