Call for Boycott Following BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN Ban

Brokeback Mountain (2005) directed by Ang Lee, starring Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Williams

Via Gay Mormon: The GLBT Community Center of Utah is asking for a boycott of the (lengthy list of) holdings of Utah Jazz owner Larry H. Miller, whose Jordan Commons Megaplex recently canceled a screening of Brokeback Mountain, the critically acclaimed box-office hit that revolves around a same-sex romantic relationship.

Among the films deemed morally acceptable by the owners of the Jordan Megaplex are the gory, ultra-violent horror movie Hostel, the raunchy (hetero) sex comedy Grandma Boy, and even Thomas Bezucha’s very pro-gay The Family Stone, which probably passed the megaplex’s censorship board because it has no homosex scenes in it.

Miller was apparently unmoved by the fact that numerous film critics groups throughout the U.S., including the Utah Film Critics Society, voted Brokeback Mountain the best film of 2005. Directed by Ang Lee, the film stars Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal.
