Getting to Know Your Brazilian Pornochanchadas
by Andre Soares

At Sala Especial [site no longer available], there’s a light-hearted analysis of Brazil’s pornochanchadas: dirt-cheap soft-core comedies — and a few dramas — that helped the Brazilian cinema survive during the dark years of political repression from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s. The text is in Portuguese, but the language of the photographs is universal.
(The photo above is from the Jaws spoof Bacalhau (Bacs) - about a perennially hungry, woman-eating giant cod.)

Wow. After seeing that website, now you relly got me curious.
I do understand some portuguese, and looks like they have some link to entire movies as well.
Hmmmm. . . I took a look at Sala Especial just now, and I didn’t see any links to entire movies - though it’s possible I missed it.
They do have links to forums, adult world news, and to a site filled with pornochanchada posters.
I remember watching two of those films way back when. “Histórias Que Nossas Babás Não Contavam” and the brilliant “Bacalhau (Bacs).” Two unforgettable cinematic experiences. . .
Hello… What is this website about??
I’m brazilian by the way…
If you mean Sala Especial, it’s gone. I’ve just checked.
That’s too bad…
Anyhow, I’ll delete the link.
Sala Especial is back. http://www.salaespecial.com
