Sex and Hypocrisy in Muslim Egypt
by Andre Soares
In "Egypt film tackles sex and hypocrisy," Al Jazeera reports that Ahmed Khaled’s 14-minute film, The Fifth Pound has been causing a stir in Egypt. The short, which depicts the (non-explicit) sexual fantasies of a bus driver, has been rejected by the majority of that country’s exhibitors. "The film is about double standards in our society," Khaled explains. "[It's] about how people try to portray themselves in one way and then behave in a different conflicting way. There are a lot of things that happen in Egyptian society that Egyptians don’t like to talk about."
