Criterion Collection Holiday 2004 DVD Gift Set
December 18th, 2004 by Andre Soares

The Criterion Collection Holiday 2004 Gift Set consists of all of their published DVDs (often Region 1, some Region 0) through October 2004 (except for the out-of-print editions). That’s 241 titles on 282 discs, and the set includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
Titles are, to put it mildly, an eclectic bunch. They include:
- John Cassavetes’s Faces (1968) and A Woman Under the Influence (1974), both with Gena Rowlands;
- Martin Scorsese’s controversial The Last Temptation of Christ (1987), with Willem Dafoe;
- Spike Lee’s overbearing Do the Right Thing (1989), with John Turturro;
- Leslie Howard and Anthony Asquith’s Academy Award-nominated Pygmalion (1938), with Howard and Wendy Hiller;
- Sergei Eisenstein’s Alexander Nevsky (1938);
- Preston Sturges’s Sullivan’s Travels (1941), with Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake, and the director’s best film, The Lady Eve (1941), with Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda;
- and Jean Renoir’s masterpiece La Règle du jeu / The Rules of the Game (1939).
List price: US$7,500.00.
