Fox Film Noir DVDs

On March 15, Fox Home Entertainment is releasing Region 1 (U.S. / Canada) DVDs of three classic Fox thrillers: Laura, Call Northside 777, and Panic in the Streets
Laura (1944, 93 min., b&w), directed by Otto Preminger (a replacement for Rouben Mamoulian), with Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, and Clifton Webb as the trio enmeshed in the mysterious death of a great beauty. Laura won an Academy Award for best black-and-white cinematography (Joseph LaShelle), and was nominated for 4 additional Oscars: best direction (Otto Preminger), best supporting actor (Clifton Webb), best screenplay (Jay Dratler, Samuel Hoffenstein, and Elizabeth Reinhardt), and best black-and-white art direction.
The Laura DVD offers the following:

Call Northside 777 (1948, 111 min., b&w), directed by Henry Hathaway, with James Stewart, Lee J. Cobb, and Richard Conte. In this social drama-cum-thriller, Stewart plays a reporter fighting the system as he attempts to discover if a convicted man is in fact innocent. Call Northside 777 was nominated for two Writers Guild awards.

In this gripping tale set in New Orleans, a doctor and a police officer have 48 hours to find a criminal infected with the bubonic plague bacteria. Panic in the Streets
was nominated for an Academy Award for best motion picture story, and for two Writers Guild awards.
