God’s Country
by Andre Soares
In "God’s Screen Country," Erik Floren discusses the role Alberta has played in countless motion pictures, from the late 1910s to the present. The article focuses on Nell Shipman, the first person to shoot a major production in that part of Canada. The film in question was her 1919 adaptation of James Oliver Curwood’s Back to God’s Country, in which she also starred. (Shipman directed the film, too, though David M. Hartford received the credit.) Source: The Edmonton Sun.
Back to God’s Country is available at Milestone.
