Oscar 2009: Bennett Miller to Direct Opening Film Segment

Oscar statuetteThe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that @radical.media will produce the opening film segment for the 2009 Academy Awards ceremony.

As per the Academy’s press release, the piece, to be directed by Academy Award nominee Bennett Miller (for Capote in 2005), "will be a celebration of the language of film and the spirit of moviemaking and will include guest appearances by some of today’s moviemaking icons."

@radical.media, described as "a multi-platform integrated entertainment and media company," produced Academy Award-winning documentary The Fog of War; the Grammy Award-winning “Concert for George”; the pilot episode of the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series Mad Men; and the “Iconoclasts” series for the Sundance Channel. Additionally, @radical.media produced the film segment that opened the 75th anniversary of the Academy Awards in 2003.

The 2009 Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. In the US, the telecast will be televised live by ABC.

    How come Bennett hasn’t make any movies since Capote?

    Bennett Miller should be directing real movies, not opening segments for Oscar parties.
