ENRON: THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM Trailer

Believe it or not, there’s a serious global financial crisis going on. So, how about some escapism?

What better video clip to watch at this time than the trailer of Alex Gibney’s 2004 Academy Award-nominated documentary feature Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room? Doesn’t the title alone make you think of those smart guys wearing expensive suits, driving expensive cars, sitting in expensive chairs in expansive offices in expansive high-rises, and living in equally expansive (and expensive) mansions?

What Gibney’s film proves — four years after it was released — is that long after the debacle of Enron and other Wall Street companies mired in greed and corruption, no one has learned anything. Certainly not The People, whose malfunctioning brains are the result of an as-yet-unexplained evolutionary process gone awry, and certainly not government whores, ahem, officials, who need tons of mullah to pay for their ever pricier political campaigns and to keep themselves in power.

But then again, there are exceptions, of course. Think of the smart guys. Those who have destroyed their companies — along with the jobs and investments of millions of people the world over — are doing quite well themselves, thank you.
