Being Julia, a minor All About Eve set on the West End, garnered its star, Annette Bening, several awards, including a best actress nod from the National Board of Review. Bening also received a Golden Globe for best actress — comedy, and an Academy Award nomination.
The praise bestowed on Bening is well deserved, for her star turn as the imperious, selfish, larger-than-life — and aging — stage diva provides Being Julia with a much needed emotional core.
