CLOSER on DVD
by Andre Soares
Closer, a (very) poor man’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, was directed by Mike Nichols (who also handled the Virginia Woolf film adaptation in 1966), and was adapted to the screen by Patrick Marber from his own play.
Closer stars Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Clive Owen, and Natalie Portman. Roberts, the best one of the dysfunctional lot, was thoroughly ignored by critics and film academies. Clive Owen and Natalie Portman give highly theatrical performances that earned them numerous accolades, including Golden Globes in the supporting actor/actress categories.
The only extra listed for the DVD is Damien Rice’s music video of the film’s song.
