THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (2004) on DVD
by Andre Soares
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s perennial tale of psychotic love, The Phantom of the Opera, reached the big screen in late 2004.
The film was greeted with little more (at times even less) than lukewarm approval by critics, who often found it stunning to look at, but devoid of heart & soul. Leading lady Emmy Rossum, however, did get some solid personal notices.
Fans of Michael Crawford, 63, were disappointed that their idol was replaced by the younger Gerald Butler. Personally, I was disappointed that Lon Chaney didn’t get to reprise his phantom in this all-singing, all-talking flick.
