Pupi Avati’s Il Papà di Giovanna / Giovanna’s Father, which is up for a Golden Lion at the 2008 Venice Film Festival, revolves around the relationship between a doting father and his insecure, mentally unstable daughter.

Screenplay by Pupi and Antonio Avati. In the cast: Silvio Orlando, Francesca Neri, Ezio Greggio, Alba Rohrwacher, and Serena Grandi.

Il Papa di Giovanna opens in Italy on September 12.
