16th annual Celebration of Iranian Cinema
by Andre Soares
"Our series is always based on what is happening in Iranian cinema that year. In the past, it has focused on youth, urban living, or showcased female directors, but this year there is not necessarily a concurrent theme. The films are very diverse in style and subject matter this year. There is something for everyone."
That’s Mimi Brody, programmer of the 16th annual Celebration of Iranian Cinema, in the University of California at Los Angeles’ Daily Bruin. The series, which begins at the James Bridges Theater tonight, is presented by the UCLA Film & Television Archive. Seven narrative features and one short will be screened. Those films are an excellent way to discover an Iran often ignored by the U.S. media.
This latest Celebration of Iranian Cinema runs through Feb. 11.
