52nd San Sebastián Film Festival

 

San Sebastian Film Festival 2004This year, the San Sebastián Film Festival will show a retrospective of the work of 68-year-old American director Woody Allen, whose Melinda and Melinda will have its world premiere on opening night. Other lifetime achievement award recipients at San Sebastián’s 52nd edition are American actors Jeff Bridges and Annette Bening. The festival, which takes place on Spain’s Basque coast, is currently being used as a launching pad for movies made in Latin America via its fifteen-film sidebar Horizontes Latinos.

The San Sebastian Film Festival kicks off on September 17; nine days later, a jury headed by Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa will give out the Golden Shell to one of the 19 films in competition, among them, Bahman Ghobadi’s Turtles Can Fly (Iran), Pete Travis’s Omagh (United Kingdom), and María Victoria Menis’s El Cielito (Spain / Argentina).
