"You’re really talking about the human condition," Cronenberg asserted, "because there’s no country on Earth that wasn’t founded on violence done to somebody."*

In A History of Violence, Viggo Mortensen plays the owner of a small-town diner who becomes a national hero after killing a handful of thugs. His shady past, however, comes back to haunt him.
