Berlin Film Festival 2008 Loses Two Jury Members
February 7th, 2008 by Andre Soares
Two who apparently weren’t around for the 58th Berlin Film Festival’s out-of-competition Shine a Light gala screening were (unexpected) former jury members Susanne Bier and Sandrine Bonnaire.
Bier, whose After the Wedding was nominated for the 2006 foreign-language film Oscar, canceled her participation at this year’s Berlin festival because she had to leave "immediately" for the United States due to "an unforeseen occurrence [that] demanded my immediate professional presence," while Bonnaire, reportedly for family reasons, was forced to cancel because she would be unable to attend the festival from beginning to end.
Greek-born director Costa-Gavras is now the president of a six-person jury: Taiwanese actress Shu Qi, US film editor Walter Murch, Russian TV and film producer Alexander Rodniansky, production designer Uli Hanisch, and German actress Diane Kruger.
