Berlin International Film Festival 2006

Nineteen films will be vying for the Golden Bear at the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival. Among those are Marc Evans’s opening night drama Snow Cake, with Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver; Claude Chabrol’s L’Ivresse du pouvoir / Comedy of Power, starring Isabelle Huppert, François Berléand, and Patrick Bruel; Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross’s political docudrama The Road to Guantanamo; Michele Placido’s Romanzo Criminale / Crime Novel, in which Kim Rossi Stuart plays a thug who wants to control the Roman underworld; Robert Altman’s ensemble comedy A Prairie Home Companion, starring Meryl Streep, Woody Harrelson, and Virginia Madsen; and Oskar Roehler’s psychological drama Elementarteilchen / The Elementary Particles, with Moritz Bleibtreu, Christian Ulmen, and Franka Potente. The festival runs from Feb. 9-19.
