Two Hungarian films, Agnes Kocsis' Friss levegö / Fresh Air and György Palfi's Taxidermia have tied for the 10,000-euro Iris Award for Best European Film at this year's edition of the Brussels European Film Festival.
Friss levegö revolves around a problematic mother-daughter relationship in today's Budapest while Taxidermia is a violent (and quite graphic) social satire that follows three generations of an unusual family.
The Audience Award (worth 2,500 euros) was given to Belgian director Joachim Lafosse for Ça rend heureux, a semi-autobiographical tale that shows how it is possible to make a film in Belgium with little money but with lots of perseverance.
The Brussels European Film Festival is dedicated exclusively to the promotion of new European filmmakers. Only first and second films are screened at the festival.
