Cannes Palme d'Or 2006According to their press release, the French-language cable channel TV5Monde USA will be the only TV channel in the U.S. to air live coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies at the 60th Cannes Film Festival. Additionally, Didier Allouch, the Los Angeles-based film correspondent for Canal Plus, will be reporting from Cannes for TV5.

At the opening ceremony on May 16, red carpet arrivals will start at 12:45 pm EST, followed by the ceremony itself at 1:15 pm. The closing ceremony will take place on May 27, beginning at 1 pm EST.

As a plus, in May TV5Monde will be airing several films that were showcased at previous Cannes festivals:

Claude Goretta’s La Dentellière, with Isabelle Huppert. The film won the Ecumenical Jury Award in 1977;

Brigitte Roüan’s Travaux, on sait quand ça commence, with Carole Bouquet, presented in the Quinzaine des Realisateurs (Directors’ Fortnight) section of the 2005 festival;

Arnaud Larrieu and Jean-Marie Larrieu’s Peindre ou faire l’amour, with Daniel Auteuil, Sabine Azéma, and Sergi López — one of the films in the 2005 official competition;

Lucas Belvaux’s La Raison du plus faible, which competed in 2006;

Anne Fontaine’s Nouvelle chance (top), starring Danielle Darrieux, which was presented out of competition in 2006;

Claire Simon’s Ça brÁûle, presented at the 2006 Directors’ Fortnight.

    You might want to check with your cable/satellite provider. It’s usually about $10-15 a month for TV5.
