The 43rd Chicago International Film Festival ran from Oct. 4-17, 2007.

The 43rd Chicago International Film Festival winners were announced on Oct. 14, 2007.

Still Light by Carlos Reygadas
Carlos Reygadas’s Silent Night revolves around a case of adultery in a Mennonite community in northern Mexico. Earlier this year, Silent Night shared the Jury Prize (third place) at the Cannes Film Festival.

 

INTERNATIONAL FILM COMPETITION

The Gold Hugo – Best Film:

The Silver Hugo – Special Jury Prize:
Tuya’s Marriage (China)

Best Director:
Ron Andersson for You, the Living (Sweden)

Silver Hugo Award – Best Actress:
Yu Nan for Tuya’s Marriage (China)

Silver Hugo Award – Best Actor:
Sam Riley in Control (UK)

Best Screenplay:
Matt Greenhalgh for Control (UK)

 

NEW DIRECTORS COMPETITION

The Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique (FIPRESCI) Award recognizes first and second-time filmmakers whose works are part of the New Directors competition.

1st Place: In Memory of Myself (Italy) by Saverio Costanzo

2nd Place: Not By Chance (Brazil) by Philippe Barcinski

 

DOCUFEST COMPETITION

Gold Hugo for Best Documentary Feature: Taxi to the Dark Side (US) by Alex Gibney

Silver Hugo for Best Documentary Feature: Chicago 10 (US) by Brett Morgen
