Chicago (1928) directed by Frank Urson, starring Phyllis Haver, Victor Varconi, Robert EdesonAmong the highlights at this year’s Cinecon event, to be held in Hollywood from Aug. 31-Sep. 4, are the restored 1926 version of Kiki (Fri., Sep 1, 3:50pm), starring Norma Talmadge — at the time quite possibly the biggest female star in Hollywood — and Ronald Colman; Chicago (1928, Sat., Sep 1, 10:25am), another rare and recently restored film, starring Phyllis Haver as murderess Roxie Hart (more on Chicago here); the ultra-rare Romance of the Underworld (1928, Sat., Sep 2, 10am), with a very young Mary Astor; the Mabel Normand vehicle Head Over Heels (1922, Sun. Sep 3, 11am); and the recently restored The Barker (1928, Mon, Sep 4, 11:25am), directed by George Fitzmaurice, and starring Milton Sills, Dorothy Mackaill, Betty Compson (who was "considered" for a Best Actress Academy Award — there were no official nominations that year), and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.

Note: Norma Talmadge’s sister, Constance Talmadge, can be seen in Up the Road with Sallie (1917, Thu. Aug 31, 9:20pm). The film is unremarkable, but Talmadge’s performance is a delight.
